Clash Royale: 7 Best Epic Cards Ranked

Let's rank these worst to epic.

Epic cards are around the middle in terms of rarity, with some standing out above the rest. In this article I’m going to rank the 7 best epic cards in Clash Royale from worst to best, so let’s get right into it!

7. Baby Dragon

Baby Dragon is one of the best support cards in Clash, and it’s also one of the best flying defenders. Baby Dragon is great for the low cost, and the evolution only makes him even better. Overall, Baby Dragon typically fits into decks with flying threats or large tanks. It’s a popular support card for everything from Balloon to Golem, and it’s rarely ever a bad pick for any deck. The non-evolved version remains good, as for only 4 elixir Baby Dragon is a really strong flying tank that always help make some progress.

These days, though, the evolved version is by far more popular. The evolution requires 2 cycles and gives Baby Dragon the ability to grant allies a speed boost. Whenever evolved Baby Dragon attacks, he grants allied troops near and behind him a significant speed boost. For slow-moving threats like Balloon and Golem, this is super helpful. It turns what would be a slow push into one that rivals the fastest Rage plays. I absolutely love Baby Dragon as a support card, and I don’t think any list of best epic cards would be complete without him.

6. Balloon

Balloon is one of the best win cons in Clash Royale, so it had to make this list. It’s biggest strength is its super high DPS to towers, as well as its relatively high HP. Balloon is a massive threat as soon as it’s played, and it’s a win con that must be answered ASAP. In terms of how it fits into the meta, it’s usually in a pretty decent place. Balloon is often paired with other flying threats like Lava Hound, with its most popular deck being the infamous Lavaloon decks that have been popular over the years.

While it isn’t a card you can just play and be guaranteed tower damage, it definitely forces a response. With the right support, Balloon is one of the best ways to score 3-crown victories. It can be fairly easily countered via buildings like Inferno Tower and Tesla or by troops like Minions or Bats, but it’s still worth using. It’s the best flying win con in the game, which makes it by default one of the more threatening.

5. Barbarian Barrel

Barbarian Barrel makes the list for a simple reason–it’s one of the best counters in the game. This card is very similar to the Log in that both are spells that deal damage in a line on the ground. The difference is that while Barbarian Barrel has less range and damage, it leaves behind a Barbarian. This makes a huge difference, as it allows Barbarian Barrel to effectively counter or at least help defend against more cards than the Log does. While it’s not quite as good as the Log overall at clearing waves of enemies, it is arguably better in other situations.

However, regardless of whether it beats the Log, Barbarian Barrel is undeniably one of the best epics in the game. Its ability to counter cards like Goblin Barrel directly and never be useless in any deck ensures it a place in tons of decks. It’s definitely a card everyone should level up, as it’s great in everything from ladder to challenges.

4. Wall Breakers

Wall Breakers are truly fantastic. For only 2 elixir, they run straight at towers and do a decent chunk of damage. You can spam these guys over and over again to constantly apply pressure and tower damage, and with their evolution you can do this even more consistently. Wall Breakers fit into a bunch of different decks since they’re so cheap and don’t require much (if any) support.

The evolution of Wall Breakers isn’t required, but it does help. It gives them better defense, so it helps against opponents that have multiple ways to stop them. If your opponent has a bunch of buildings, then your Wall Breakers will probably struggle. However, they’re guaranteed to be cheaper than your opponents’ buildings, so you can typically outplay them if you time them right.

3. Witch

Witch is easily one of the best support cards in Clash, especially when considering the evolution too. The Witch is great since she can easily handle any swarm, and her DPS is pretty good as well. The skeletons she spawns aren’t super important, but they are a good distraction and help with tanks sometimes. Witch works best when supporting a tank like Golem or one of the Giants. She’s also good at defending, so she’s very rarely ever a bad choice.

The Witch’s evolution lets her heal herself when her skeletons die, which makes her extremely difficult to kill. Living longer means she can support or defend longer, which is objectively great. There’s never been a time where I was upset to have the Witch, whether evolved or not. She’s one of the strongest individual troops in the game and she fits into a ton of meta decks.

2. P.E.K.K.A.

The only thing I don’t love about P.E.K.K.A. is how annoying it is to type over and over. Her best trait is her high DPS, with the only downside being that she attacks slowly and only individual targets. As long as you have something to support her, she’s an extremely deadly force. When you get her to enemy towers she’s able to take them out in just a few strikes, and when defending there’s nothing with too much HP for her to deal with.

P.E.K.K.A.’s evolution is not as strong as some other ones, but it’s not bad. It lets her heal whenever she destroys a building or troop, so it’s pretty good but not essential. The biggest benefit is that it allows P.E.K.K.A. to more effectively fight back against ground swarms. While it might not be enough to out damage something like Skeleton Army, it’s definitely helpful against Barbarians, Skeletons, or any other swarm with a relatively low number of troops. P.E.K.K.A. really is all about high damage, so she’s always a good card to build a deck around.

1. Goblin Barrel

Goblin Barrel is one of the deadliest cards in the game, and the overall best epic card in Clash Royale. The reason it’s so good is how much of a constant threat it is. Goblin Barrel spawns three goblins around wherever it lands, which is usually an enemy tower. The goblins do really high DPS to towers and can do nearly a thousand damage without breaking a sweat unless dealt with quickly. There are entire decks that exist solely to destroy towers with Goblin Barrels, with or without the evolution. The evolution lets you target both towers at once with barrels, which is good but doesn’t really do a ton.

The downside to Goblin Barrel is that it is easily countered. The Log, Barbarian Barrel, Zap (kind of), Fireball, and many other spells can kill the goblins before they attack the tower. Many troops are also very good at killing the goblins quickly. But the good thing is that these counters can still be beat. You can use other cards to bait your opponent into using them, you can trick them with your Barrel placement, or you can just spam them faster than they’re able to deal with. At the end of the day, Goblin Barrel is always a strong card and easily the best epic one.
